In the next section, we will add Shop Filters to the shop sidebar.

Shop sidebar

To customize shop sidebar, go to Appearance -> Widgets. Then place the widgets to the Shop Sidebar as shown in the image below:

  • RedParts: Filters — is a special widget that allows you to display one sidebar inside another. In this case, it will be used to display filters in the shop sidebar. Has the following options:

Attributes

The RedPart theme provides some enhancements to the base attribute system of the WooCommerce plugin. This section describes these enhancements.

Brands

At the moment, the only difference between brand attributes and ordinary attributes is that they can be used in the RedParts: Block Brands widget. The following describes the process of setting up and managing brands.

First you need to create an attribute.

  1. Go to Products -> Attributes.
  2. Enter Name (for example: Brand) and Slug (for example: brand). Then check the Enable Archives? and click on the Add attribute button.

Now we need to indicate that the attribute we created will be used to set the product's brand.

  1. Go to RedParts Sputnik -> Brands.
  2. Select the created attribute in the Brand Attribute field and click on the Save Changes button.

Let's add a brand and assign it to a product.

  1. Go to Products -> Attributes and click the Configure terms link next to the brand attribute.
  2. Enter Name and select Brand image, then click on the Add new Brand button.

Once a brand has been created, it can be assigned to a product in the same way as a regular attribute. See the official WooCommerce documentation: Add global attributes to product.

Featured attributes

In this theme, a special mechanism has been implemented that allows you to specify the most significant attributes (characteristics) of the product for the customer. Such attributes will be shown in the product card when viewing the catalog in modes Grid with features, List and in the product page without sidebar.

To mark an attribute as featured, check the box next to the Featured field as shown in the image below:

Color and label attribute types

Attributes of the Color and Label type allow you to change the appearance of the controls for selecting a product variant. The image below demonstrates how it looks:

Now let's create one of these attributes, for example an attribute of type Color:

  1. Go to Products -> Attributes. Enter Name (for example: Color) and select Color in the Type field. Then click on the Add attribute button.
  2. After creating the attribute, click the Configure terms link next to the color attribute in the table on the right.
  3. To add a new term, enter the name of the term in the Name field and select a color in the Color field, then click Add new Color button.

Once you have created all the necessary colors and attributes, it's time to use them when creating a Variable Product. The process of creating products with variable parameters is described in the official documentation of the WooCommerce plugin.

Auto Parts

Since the RedParts template was created specifically for auto parts stores, it implements such functions as a "garage", filtering products suitable for the selected vehicle, as well as a badge displaying the compatibility of the product with the selected vehicle.

Disable auto parts store features

From version 1.1.0 it became possible to disable all functions of the auto parts store. It will be useful for those who intend to create a store not related to auto parts.

  1. Go to RedParts Sputnik -> Auto Parts.
  2. Select No in the Use auto parts store features property and click the Save Changes button.

Creating vehicle attribute

First of all, you need to add an attribute that will be used as vehicles and specify it in the settings of the RedPart Sputnik plugin

  1. Go to Products -> Attributes.
  2. Enter Name (for example: Compatibility) and Slug (for example: compatibility). Then check the Enable Archives? and click on the Add attribute button.

Now we need to indicate that the attribute we created will be used to indicate the compatibility of products with vehicles.

  1. Go to RedParts Sputnik -> Auto Parts.
  2. Select the created attribute in the Vehicle Attribute field and click on the Save Changes button.

Adding Vehicles

After making the appropriate settings, we can start adding vehicles.

  1. Go to Products -> Attributes and click Configure terms opposite the previously created attribute (Compatibility).
  2. First of all, let's add a term that will be used to indicate that the product is compatible with all cars. Enter [ALL] in the name field, __all__ in the slug field and click Add new Compatibility.
  3. Finally it's time to add the first vehicle. Fill in the following fields:
    • Name - Just a vehicle name. Can be any value, but not empty.
    • Vehicle produced since - Year in which vehicle production began (for example: 2016).
    • Vehicle produced until - The year the vehicle ended production (for example: 2020). Leave blank if the vehicle is still in production.
    • Vehicle brand - Vehicle manufacturer name (for example: Ford, BMW, Audi, etc).
    • Vehicle model - Vehicle model name (for example: Focus S, M5, A6, etc).
    • Vehicle modification - Vehicle modification name (for example: 2.0L 1742DA L4 FI Turbo).
    • Vehicle VIN - Vehicle identification number (for example: 5YJSA1DG9DFP14705).
  4. Add as many vehicle as you need. When you're done, catch up, we'll be waiting for you in the next section.

Product compatibility

Once we have created the attribute and added the vehicles, we can start specifying the product compatibility information with the vehicles.

  1. Open the edit page of one of your products and open the Attributes tab.
  2. Then add the attribute we created and add to it as values the vehicles with which it is compatible. You can also add a special value [ALL] to indicate that the product is compatible with all vehicles.

Vehicle Fields

Starting with version 1.2.0, the ability to customize vehicle fields has become available.

Each vehicle field has four properties:

  • Type - The field type. It takes one of two values:
    • Year - For the field responsible for the period of vehicle production.
    • Text - For other fields.
  • Slug - Mnemonic field name that is used inside the RedParts Sputnik plugin and as a placeholder in the vehicle name and vehicle description. Must be unique and consist of the following characters: -_a-z.
  • Label - Just field label.
  • Placeholder - Will be displayed if the field value is not set.

In the screenshots below, you can see what each property is responsible for:

To customize the name of the vehicle and its description, you can use the corresponding fields. These parameters can accept any text as well as variables based on field slugs:

  • If we have a field of type Year and slug produced, then the following variables will be available:

    • %produced% - Year of the beginning of the car production or the year selected by the customer.
    • %produced_since% - Year of the beginning of production of the vehicle.
    • %produced_until% - Year of the end of production of the vehicle.
    • %produced_range% - Production start and end date range. Same as: %produced_since%–%produced_until%.
  • If we have a field of type Text and slug model, then the following variables will be available:

    • %model% - Will be replaced by vehicle model.

Import and export

Since version 1.3.0, it is possible to import and export vehicles and compatibility information. You can use this ability in the section RedParts Sputnik -> Auto Parts -> Import and export.

Download the sample import file. The columns product_id, product_sku are optional, the rest of the columns correspond to the vehicle fields with the following naming convention:

  • For fields with the type Year - vehicle_*_since, vehicle_*_until, where * is a field slug.
  • For fields with the type Text - vehicle_*, where * is a field slug.

Wishlist & Compare

By default, WooCommerce does not support product comparisons and wish list, so we have implemented them for you. However, to take advantage of these features, you must follow the steps below.

First we need to create a page for the wish list:

  1. Go to Pages -> Add New.
  2. Provide the page name (for example: Wishlist) and add a Shortcode block with the following contents:
    [redparts_sputnik_wishlist]
  3. Click on the Publish button.

Similarly, let's create a page for product comparison:

  2. Provide the page name (for example: Compare) and add a Shortcode block with the following contents:
    [redparts_sputnik_compare]
  3. Click on the Publish button.

Now we need to specify in the settings which pages will be used for comparison and wishlist:

        </div>
        [redparts_sputnik_social_links classes=th-widget-aboutus__socials]
        <div class="th-widget-aboutus__socials-caption">

Colors

If you just want to change the main color of the theme, go to RedParts Theme -> Color. In the Theme Scheme property, choose one of the predefined color schemes or choose [Custom] to define your own colors.

Desktop header colors

The template provides several options for coloring the header, you can use one of them:

Or you can set your own coloring scheme by specifying the color for each element (of which the header consists) separately. To do this, set the property value "Use predefined variant" to "No":

Now you can customize each element individually by choosing from four color schemes defined in the General section (Theme, Light, Dark, Accent), or set your own colors by choosing [Custom].

Mobile header and footer colors

The mechanism for setting the colors in these sections is the same as described in the Desktop Header section.

Button colors

The theme uses two types of buttons: Primary and Secondary. Select [Custom] next to each one to change the default colors.

Links color

Only one option is available in this section. Change it to set the color of the links.

Price colors

Logically, the price of products can be divided into three types: Normal, Old and New. In this section you can set a color for each of them.

Translation

Plugin Translation

The translation of the RedParts Sputnik plugin supplied with the theme is done in the same way as the translation of the theme.

Translate the wp-content/plugins/redparts-sputnik/languages/redparts-sputnik.pot file and save your translation with the name redparts-sputnik-ru_RU.po (of course instead of ru_RU specify your locale) in the wp-content/languages/plugins directory. Poedit will also generate an redparts-sputnik-ru_RU.mo file, you need to upload it to the same directory.
